A controversial statement. Jean-Luc Mélenchon was strongly rebuked on social networks, after publishing an excerpt of his last speech in Mende, Saturday, September 28, in Lozère. While Lebanon is under fire from Israeli strikes and the leader of Hezbollah has been killed, the founder of La France Insoumise has spoken at length about the conflict that is shaking the region. And one of his tirades, in which he mentioned Benjamin Haddad, the new minister delegate for European affairs, was not well received.
“The minister appointed to take care of Europe is committed to Mr. Netanyahu’s policy,” chanted the former presidential candidate. On X, the reactions were numerous. “To put it plainly what you are implying, this minister is… Jew. It is undignified,” said Gérard Araud, a diplomat and former France ambassador to Israel and the United States.
